Miike is one of the most prolific directors of Japanese cinema (he has directed over 50 films in 11 years) and soon became a cult director. Ichi, also known as Ichi the Killer is the villainous main protagonist of the manga Ichi The Killer and its film adaption of the same name. In 1995, he was hired to direct Shinjuku Triad Society, his first 35 mm film. During the early 1990's he directed numerous video productions. Miike Takashi (Osaka, 1960) studied at the school of cinema founded by Imamura Shohei, with whom he worked as assistant director on the films Zegen (1987) and Kuroi ame (1989).
